Momofuku Ssäm Bar

Late night snack at Momofuku Ssäm Bar.

Click here for a formal write-up and here for a podcast, both on Off The Broiler.

Whereas Jason previewed Momofuku in all its porky glory, Chef Chang recently opened an uber-late-night version of Momofuku that serves food from 10:30 pm to 2:30 am. It’s a scaled down version of Ssäm Bar with a wonderfully eclectic range of offerings, from small plates to an oyster tasting to charcuterie and more.

Shots of the menu:

Steamed rice buns stuffed with pork belly, hoisin sauce and cucumber
Castell Roig Rose Cava, Brut. N.V.
(Spain)
Masumi Arabashiri sake (Nagano Prefecture, Japan)

Three terrine sandwich — ham, head cheese, chicken liver pate, served with lobster crackers

Another shot of the sandwich.

Fried cauliflower, chilies, cilantro, mint, nam pla

Another shot of the cauliflower.

Out of 10? A moderate to moderate-high 7, based on this first impression. Momofuku’s late-night sibling could easily become one of my favorite places to eat. Those buns alone are worth the price of admission.

Momofuku Ssäm Bar is located at 207 Second Avenue (corner of East 13th Street) in the East Village, Manhattan.
